The day before prior to the surgery, I had to bath with a pink-purplish solution that smelt \. It was to cleanse my body of bacteria and prepare my body for the surgery. This is known as the pre-operative bath.
I also had to fast starting 12-midnight till the operation was over. Not even a sip of water was allowed. I felt quite hungry and thirsty.
When I arrived at the hospital(approx 10.15am), I was ushered to a B class ward, this was because there were no more beds in class C. So thank God! (: The difference is that I have air-con! (:
I0.30am, the Doctor came and I signed the forms for the surgery. The nurse strapped me with ID tags and also a RFID, a tracking device.
11.20am, I did a urine sample. My heart was beating quite fast then. Ten more minutes to the surgery!
11.30am came and went.
11.41am, the healthcare assistant, a greying hair, old indian man came in. He sat down at a chair opposite me.
And he then came and introduced himself. He is 58-years old, and working at SGH to pass time.
11.51am, I'm feeling hungrier still. I wish there's food. I wish it'll be over very soon.
12.30pm, nurses got me to put on the surgical gown for the operation. My valuables were handed over to the 2 nurses. One of them is quite tall.
12.45pm, the surgerical bed came. I got on it shortly.
Approx 1 plus, I was inside the operating theatre. Dr Adelene, the medical officer briefed me on what I was to expect and all. In all, I was asked to whether I had eaten anything, loose teeth and any asthma and chest problems. This question was asked all the way.
I felt quite nervous as they shifted me on the operating table. I then requested for a blanket as it was quite cold.
Then, the surgeon administering the anesthesia strapped a mask on my face, and told me to breathe in and out deeply. She said that I would feel a warm, hot sensation travelling up my left arm. I was then lost..
It felt really like time travel. When I woke up, the operation was all over! (: I felt no pain, thank God! (: It was 4pm when I was brought back to the ward.
The gown I had to change into
My urine specimen
My first day dinner! A meal at last!
Contents of the dinner
Plain porridge to go with vegs and fish
I felt quite bad when I heard I couldn't go home but to stay through the night till the next morning. What would happen to poor Patches, Lion and Lopez? Thank God for Mommy's friend, she went over to feed them! I was also contemplating the handphone that was about to go dead anytime.
But overall, I felt quite good. (: There was no pain, save the discomfort I had to endure whilst sleeping. I couldn't sleep on my left side, thus the night was spent trying to shift into a comfortable position.
Thank you nurse - Lee Xiao Wei, May! You've been a real nice and sweet nurse!
She brought me charger to charge my handphone when she knew it was dying.
And she even bought newspapers for me! Such a lovely nurse! (: THANK YOU!
And she even bought newspapers for me! Such a lovely nurse! (: THANK YOU!
Including the other nurses too, one of them who is Charlene Goh, if I can remember correctly. No habit of recalling names nor reading the name tags and memorizing them.
I'm now home sweet home (:
